ACUMEN GROUP ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH ABERDEEN SCHOOL

Aberdeen-based Acumen Group, a leading financial and business services company has joined forces with Aberdeen Grammar School to help pupils gain a valuable insight into the business world after signing an agreement on Monday 10 March as part of the national Determined to Succeed initiative.

Acumen group director Mervyn Stanley, along with the company's group HR manager, Janine Sydenham and Kay Newton group marketing manager all attended the signing at the Riverside Drive headquarter. Helen Innes, senior deputy head of Aberdeen Grammar School also attended along with the school's enterprise co-ordinator, Ryan Robertson and four senior pupils.

Determined To Succeed is a Scottish Government initiative for enterprise in education. It aims to help Scotland's young people develop self-confidence, self-reliance and ambition to achieve their goals, in both work and life, by developing links between schools and the business community.

Financial experts at Acumen will share their skills and expertise with Aberdeen Grammar pupils through regular workshops and presentations, hopefully leading to pupils being motivated to follow a job in their industry. Acumen will also help children build positive attitudes by challenging their minds, providing them with opportunities and raising their profile. Already the agreement has proved successful with presentations on CV writing and 'how to run a meeting' being held with senior pupils.

Mervyn Stanley of Acumen says: "We have been working towards a formal partnership with Aberdeen Grammar School for some time. We are delighted to be able to work with the school and look forward to building a lasting partnership to the benefit of pupils, teachers and staff at Acumen."

The aim of the Determined To Succeed Partnership also encourages pupils to consider the wealth of career options open to them and provide them with an insight into the working environment. Companies who enter into the agreement are asked to look at ways they can provide support to the school curriculum and take part in school events.

Helen Innes, deputy head at Aberdeen Grammar says: " The partnership offers a fantastic opportunity for the pupils, helping them gain an insight into the business world. The workshops and presentations will be extremely beneficial especially for our senior pupils who are nearing the stages of employment."
