ACUMEN EMPLOYEES SET WHEELS IN MOTION FOR CHARITY
Three financial specialists in Aberdeen have accepted the challenge of a lifetime in a bid to raise cash for breast cancer sufferers.
Amateur cyclists Mervyn Stanley and Steve Mitchell from The Acumen Group - a leading financial and business services company - and Alasdair McGill from GHRL, an organisation which supports companies through growth, will take part in the London to Paris Cycle Ride 2007 for Breast Cancer Care in August.
The trio has pledged to collect more than £3,600 from their marathon cycle ride, which starts on Wednesday 29 August. After travelling through Kent they will head across the Channel and through the ancient battlefields of the Somme and Agincourt in Northern France. The 300-mile trek should take roughly four days to complete and will finish at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Having undergone a gruelling training regime over the last six-months, the cyclists are ready for long days in the saddle and some steep hill climbs.
Business development manager at The Acumen Group Mervyn Stanley says: "This will be an incredible journey for us and an immense challenge. Despite the fact that we are all keen cyclists and regularly take on the hills surrounding Aberdeen, we know cycling 95-miles for four days on the go, will be an entirely different experience."
"The support we've had has been tremendous so far. We're all on a strict fitness and health regime to ensure that we pull the pledged money in and don't let the charity down. We still have £1,000 sponsorship to find and welcome donations from local businesses."
Breast Cancer Care provides support and information to those affected by breast cancer. The charity has been working for more than 30 years and offers accurate and easy to understand information, as well as practical and emotional support.
Breast Cancer Care's head of events Ellie Sleeman said: "I am delighted by the three guys hard work in raising money for Breast Cancer Care. The money raised will make such a difference to the work we do."
