ACUMEN FINANCIAL PLANNING CROWNED CHAMPION AT PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS

Aberdeen-based, Acumen Financial Planning, part of The Acumen Group, won industry-wide recognition when it received a prestigious award at the New Model Advisor of The Year Award ceremony on Thursday (17 January 2008)

The independent financial firm was crowned Citywire New Model Advisor of the Year 2008 for Scotland and Northern Ireland at a ceremony in London. It's the first time the company has collected the trophy after being nominated three times previously. New Model Advisor is a highly respected publication, which is widely read by the financial community.

The award recognises Acumen's ability to keep at the forefront of the changing financial planning sector. More than 200 firms across the UK entered the awards answering dozens of questions about their finances and business processes. The responses were then independently analysed and the top firms identified. In the Scotland and Ireland category Acumen was shortlisted with 5 other entries.

Managing Director of The Acumen Group, Sandy Robertson said: "We're determined to keep at the cutting-edge of the financial planning sector and a great deal of hard work has gone into building up the financial planning team and attracting highly qualified planners to the company. It's fantastic that the team's achievements have been recognised by this notable award. We have more certified financial planners than anyone else in Scotland," said Sandy, referring to eight of his eleven advisors, " and targeting towards having all our planners either certified or chartered, which would be great".

This latest achievement marks a highly successful period for the company which has approximately £100 million under advice and has seen repeat business increase from 48% in 2003 to 68%. The Group has committed to a new office in Edinburgh having recently acquired a tax practice there.

Acumen Accountants and Advisors Limited was launched by Sandy Robertson in 1995 as an accountancy practice serving the Aberdeen and the North East Scotland community. Inspired by a speech given by David Norton at an IFP conference, Sandy went on to launch Acumen Financial Planning Limited in 2002. The company operates as a niche player with offices in Aberdeen, Peterhead, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Norwich. The company now has 8 Certified Financial Planners.
